Messaging service WhatsApp has over 700 million users but the app is still struggling to keep its users privacy intact.
A security problem in WhatsApp means that anyone can see users' profile photos, even if they have been set to be viewable to friends only, according to security researchers.
The problem has been discovered by a 17-year old security researcher Indrajeet Bhuyan. The problem seems to be a result of the phone app not being properly synced with the new web interface.
A security bug in the WhatsApp's web version that shows deleted photos was also discovered by Bhuyan. The deleted photos can be seen as blurred images on the phone, probably because the web saves them indefinitely. The bug clearly indicates that the web version introduced last month is not as per the mobile version in terms of security.
For privacy of your private chat on WhatAapp mobile app, a number of third party apps provide password protection. However, any message for free subscription or encouraging you to follow links is termed to be scams. Any message asking personal information should be avoided as WhatsApp does not ask any such information through messages.
The apps web client was introduced on January 21. While many were excited to finally be able to read and respond to messages from their PC, it also disappointed other users with its limited compatibility and functions.
