New Delhi, Nov 9: United Spirits Ltd today reported 73.46 per cent decline in standalone net profit at Rs 39.27 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2012 on the back of lower sales volumes.

The company had posted net profit of Rs 147.99 crore in the same quarter last fiscal.

Net sales during the quarter under review stood at Rs 2,220.7 crore against Rs 1,790.62 crore in the year-ago period, USL said in a filing to the BSE.

In terms of volume, sales stood at 28.4 million cases during the second quarter this fiscal, compared to Rs 28.7 crore in the same period last fiscal, down 1 per cent.

“The key markets of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal continued to dampen USL's performance during the quarter,” the firm said.

The company's leading brands, McDowell's No 1 and Royal Challenge registered healthy growths of 16 per cent and 23 per cent for the first half of the fiscal, it said, adding the Black Dog whisky range grew by 19 per cent.
