New Delhi: Since the iPhone's inception, Apple top management – once led by the brilliant Steve Jobs – has argued against Android. But now it has become apparent that Apple is only playing catch up, launching new features they once adamantly opposed. Though Apple is late three years to large screen party in the smartphone world but it has done with it panache. Apple has not disappointed its fans by announcing not only two new iPhones, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, but the much-anticipated Apple Watch at a keynote event in California. While the iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen that is significantly larger than the 4-inch display on the iPhone 5 and 5S, the iPhone 6 Plus marks the company's entry into the "phablets" segment like Samsung's 5.7-inch Galaxy Note.
Speaking at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino, California, where Steve Jobs unveiled the first Apple Macintosh computer 30 years ago, chief executive Tim Cook said the launch is "the biggest advancement in the history of iPhone".
Here is a quick rundown of best reasons to buy the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Thinnest iPhones yet!
Right from the rounded back of the original iPhone to the flat design of the 5S, Apple has continued to vary its design with the new models. Apple calls the design of the new iPhones "a continuous, seamless design". In the new models, the glass front melts into the curved all-metal sides. While the company's current flagship 5S, already a thin phone in its own right, measures 7.6 mm in thickness, both the new phones are also somewhat thinner at 6.8 and 7.1 mm, respectively.
Marvelous display
Both the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus come with diagonal screens with "Retina HD" displays. While the iPhone 6 offer a higher resolution: 1334 by 750 pixels (326 pixels per inch) the iPhone 6 comes with a 1920 by 1080 pixels screen resolution (401 pixels per inch). The new screens offer broader viewing angles, and both the phones have dramatically higher contrast ratios (iPhone 6 – 1400:1, iPhone 6 Plus 1300:1) and brightness ratings (500 cd/m2) despite Apple stating that it slimmed down both phone's display backlights. Although the screens do not utilize sapphire glass as had been previously rumored, they are "ion-strengthened" for extra protection.
Big screens
The iPhone 6 measures in at 5.44 inches long and 2.64 inches wide, and weighs 4.55 ounces. The iPhone 6 measures in at 6.22 inches long and 3.06 wide, weighing 6.07 ounces. In comparison, the iPhone 5s is 4.87 inches long, 2.31 inches wide, and it weighs 3.95 ounces.
The 5.5-inch screen offers 88 per cent more real estate than prior models and full HD resolution. This makes it compete against Note like phablets, which trade compactness for the benefits of a large-screen experience, such as better video viewing. In terms of viewing experience, a big advantage with iPhone 6 Plus is the landscape mode. The mode enables you to view apps and home screen in a wider landscape mode. It's expected that many apps for iPhone 6 will also more closely resemble iPad apps than traditional iPhone apps.
