NEW DELHI: Salt-to-software conglomerate Tata Group has moved up one place and is now ranked fourth among Asia's 10 best companies for leadership, says a survey by global consultancy firm Hay Group.

Tata Group is the only Indian entity which has managed to find a place in the list of 10 best companies for leadership in Asia.

The Indian corporate major has been ranked at the fifth position among ten best companies for leadership in Asia list, which was topped by Samsung Group followed by Toyota Motors and Unilever at the second and third position, respectively.

Others in the top 10 in Asia include Petronas, General Electric, IBM, Sony, Coca—Cola and DHL International.

According to the Hay Group, the Best Companies for Leadership globally are strategic in developing and motivating leaders throughout the organisation to do their best.

Around 73 per cent of the top 20 companies reported giving everyone at every level of the organisation the opportunity to develop and practice the capabilities needed to lead others, compared to only 47 per cent of all other companies.

Among the global best leadership companies, Procter & Gamble topped the list, followed by Microsoft, General Electric and Coca-Cola.

In comparison, Asia's Best Companies for Leadership exhibit a profound ability to maintain the balance between their ability to explore (innovate) and exploit existing marketing strengths to achieve business excellence in tough times.

“... Many of the skills once required solely for senior leadership roles such as high levels of emotional intelligence, commitment to continuous learning, analytical thinking, are now critical at every level of organisation,” Hay Group's Leadership and Talent practice and co-leader of the Best Companies for Leadership Study Ruth Malloy said.

The report further noted that best companies for leadership report higher usage rates of web-based leadership modules, classroom-based leadership training, and mentoring.
