Mumbai: A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), was trading 327.40 points or 1.20 percent down during afternoon session on Thursday.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 92.45 points or 1.12 percent down at 8,147.30 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,242.05 points, was trading at 26,898.53 points (at 1.07 p.m.), down 327.40 points or 1.20 percent from the previous day's close at 27,225.93 points.
The Sensex has touched a high of 27,242.05 points and a low of 26,897.54 points in the intra-day trade so far.
Selling pressure was seen in metal, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), media, technology and entertainment (TECK) and capital goods sectors.
The BSE S&P metal index plunged by 1.73 percent, FMCG index dropped by 1.11 percent, TECK index slipped by 1.09 percent and capital goods index went down by 1 percent.
