New Delhi, June 5: Samsung has launched a waterproof and dustproof version of the Galaxy S4.
The new device, which will go on sale over the summer, features a design that fits that suits perfectly for those having an "active" lifestyle. It's official IP67 protection means it will be able to withstand 30 minutes of submergence in water at a depth of one meter, as well as being dustproof. The phone can also take pictures under water and features an 'Aqua Mode' for the same.
The new model comes with all the standard S4 features such as eye tracking and health monitoring.
"The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is designed to enhance life experiences of the active user who wants to stay connected while exploring environments from the most rugged mountain trails to the roughest rivers," the company said in a press statement.
The Galaxy S4 Active is powered by a 1.9 GHz Quad-core processor and has 2GB of RAM. It features a 5-inch full HD (1920x1080 pixels resolution) TFT LCD screen that has a pixel density of 443 PPI. It runs Android 4.2.2, the latest iteration of the operating system.
The device has an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. The volume key of S4, which is situated on the side of the device, can be used as a camera key, allowing users to easily and quickly open the camera application to capture photo and video the moment it happens. The S4 active comes with a powerful LED flash light to assist in low-light and nighttime activities with a long press of the volume key.
It has 16GB internal storage out of which 11.25GB is accessible and is equipped with a microSD card slot that allows users to expand storage up to 64GB. The phone comes with a 2600mAh battery.
Other features include finger hovering sensor, a gyro sensor, digital compass, barometer, an accelerometer, proximity sensor, gesture sensor, and a light sensor. It comes with Wi-Fi ac (Gigabit), Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and LTE connectivity options. It also sports an Infrared blaster.
The S4 Active will be available this summer, initially in the US and Sweden. UK pricing and release has yet to be announced. The color options are Urban Grey, Dive Blue and Orange Flare.
