New Delhi, April 26: Samsung has launched the eagerly-awaited Galaxy S4 in India. The flagship smartphone from the Korean giant has launched the octa-core version (1.6 ghz quad core processor + 1.2 ghz quad core processor) in India. The Galaxy S4 is priced at Rs. 41,500 ($765) and is available on April 27 in select retail stores.
The pricing of S4 has been kept marginally lower from some high-end phones like HTC One (Rs. 42,990) and iPhone 5 (Rs 45,500).
The Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 441 ppi. The Galaxy S4's screen is 56 per cent larger than the iPhone's. It weighs 130g and is 7.9 mm thick and is slimmer than its predecessor, the Galaxy S III.
The company has launched S4's 16GB model in India. Users can expand the phone's memory can be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card slot. The phone has 2GB RAM and extracts power from a 2600 mAh battery. Its battery is 20 per cent larger than that of the S III.
The device runs Android 4.2.2 OS and comes with a 13 megapixel auto focus camera with flash. It has a 2 megapixel front camera with Full HD recording at 30fps.
The S 4 comes with several new technologies intended to help users interact with the phone. For instance, the screen now senses fingers hovering just above the screen, and some applications react.
The device has some gee-whiz elements that are driving buzz, such as:
* Dual camera technology, which allows users to capture photos and videos with both a front and rear camera at the same time.
* A function for speech-to-text and text-to-speech translation of several languages.
* The ability to respond to some eye movements. For instance, its "smart pause" feature stops playing video when it detects that a user has looked away. The video will play again when it senses that the user has looked back.
The other notable addition to the design of the Galaxy S4 is the infra red blaster on the top of the phone. This allows you to control your TV, satellite box, DVD player, amp and even air conditioner, according to the reviewer notes
Analysts say with S4, Samsung has poked Apple majorly in the eye. “Samsung has done "an amazing job" at becoming part of the pop culture conversation,” they say.
