New Delhi, Jan 12: A small electric-powered car was the cynosure of all eyes at the Prime Minister's Office at South Block where ministers had come for a meeting of the Union Cabinet.
Minister for new and renewable energy, Farooq Abdullah drove in the blazing green two-door Mahindra Reva NXG to attend the meeting.
He showcased the car to several ministers including finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, I&B minister Ambika Soni and deputy chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
Mukherjee even sat in the driver's seat of the car to get a feel of the interiors. The eco-friendly car has solar panels on the roof and can run upto 100 km on a single charge.
With the demand for electric cars expected to increase in the coming years, the Mahindra Group had during the just concluded Auto Expo unveiled its next generation concept electric vehicle (EV), Reva NXR. This car is expected to be launched in November around Diwali.
"Just imagine travelling from Connaught Place to Delhi international airport for an energy cost of Rs 10 and doing so in air-conditioned, climate-controlled comfort in your own car without emitting a single molecule of harmful gases," Pawan Goenka, president, automotive and farm sectors, said about the vehicle.
