Kochi, May 18: Syndicate Bank Staff Association today strongly opposed the move to close down RBI counters delivering coins and currency notes in metro centres and state capitals in a phased manner.
This move is ‘disastrous and anti public' and would inconvenience the business community, Association national secretary S K Bhat said in a statement here.
He urged trade unions in the banking industry and the banking clientele to oppose this move.
The association urged RBI to open more satellite centres in the country to mitigate the acute shopratge of fresh currency and coins.
Presently, RBI has 18 Issue Offices throughout the country.
