New Delhi: Intex Technologies has said it will soon launch a smartphone with MediaTek's Octa-core chipset. What's unique about the chipset is its raw processing power that we have recently seen in Samsung's Galaxy S4 with a 1.6 GHz octa-core version. The catch here is: affordability.
Along with the 1.7 Ghz Octa-core MediaTek processor, Intex said the Android 4.2.2 phone will also have dual SIM capability. The phone will come in 16 GB and 32 GB options along with 2GB of RAM, besides a 13MP rear camera.
What's noteworthy here is that MediaTek's product uses eight Cortex-A7 cores which aren't as fast as those used in today's top-end chips like NVIDIA Tegra 4 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 — these chips have four of the more powerful Cortex-A15 cores. Since most of the apps don't use 2-3 cores so adding more of the slower cores may not add much to the performance. Well, it will be interesting to see the benchmark results of new Intex smartphone.
