New Delhi, June 4: Toyota has revealed teaser photos of the next generation Corolla, which the automaker will unveil on June 6 at California.
The new photos show a touchscreen audio system, new LED headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Known as the Corolla Altis in India and as the Corolla in markets like the US, the new car offers sporty looks and aggressive styling, aimed at a younger audience. The company showcased the model at the Detroit motor show in January.
The 12th generation of Corolla appears to be heavily inspired from the concept car RAV4 and Furia that were showcased at 2013 Motor Show held in Detroit. The company has toned down some of the radical detailing from the Furia but has kept lots of core design influences.
The car gets a sharper look by way of a prominent shoulder line, the kink in the window line and heavily creased bumpers. In the new images, the base of the bumper is the same as the current Corolla Altis sold in India. Just like the Honda City in concept, the new Corolla's headlights however have a kink at the bottom as well as a sharp vertical crease in the bumper. There are LED running lights integrated in the headlamps that add a touch of class to the whole look.
As expected, the car will also get a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels that sport twin-spoke design. It may be noted that the India spec Corolla comes equipped with “not-so-stylish” 15-inch alloy wheels.
An important highlight of the new Corolla is a new touch screen audio system which could very well provide social networking and news reports options!
The new 2014 Toyota Corolla is expected to be powered by a 1.8-liter four-pot petrol engine with VVT-i tech. The motor comes mated to a new CVT ‘box. The diesel variant is likely to continue being powered by the current engine.
The new sedan from Toyota may come with a multi function steering wheel along with various chrome gauges. There will also be some extra space including head and leg room for passengers at the rear seat. The company will bring out the new model across various trim levels including base, LE, S and Eco variants. These variants of the 2014 Corolla will come with push button start, cutting-edge navigation system and plush leather interiors as a standard.
