New Delhi: The NDA government is making plans to put all cabinet notes and writings on Kindle devices which will help in cutting the usage of paper in the meetings.
This will result in a significant reduction in the amount of paper used. The government's technology arm, the National Informatics Centre (NIC), has been instructed to implement this within six months.
Besides saving precious paper, the Prime Ministers' Office believes the move will block what it sees as “leakage of information” on critical issues to the media before decisions are taken on them.
Government sources also said that Union ministers and secretaries will receive device which will be loaded with Cabinet notes and annexure and will given to them when they arrive for the meeting. The Secretariat would be handed back the devices after the meeting.
The devices will have security feature like the data stored in it will get erased if someone tries to access its ports with USB link. The ministries would continue to use paper though to communicate among themselves while drafting Cabinet notes.
It needs to be mentioned that this plan is based on Andhra Pradesh, where the N Chandrababu Naidu government has moved to an e-cabinet mode.
