New Delhi, Oct 1: Automobile major Maruti Suzuki on Monday reported an increase of 9.8 per cent in total sales in September with 93,988 units sold as against 85,565 units sold in the same month during the previous year.
According to the company, its domestic sales increased by 12.7 per cent in the month under review and stood at 88,801 units from 78,816 units sold in the like period of last year.
However, exports in the month under review plummeted by 23.1 per cent and stood at 5,187 units from 6,749 units sold in September 2011.
Segment-wise, passenger vehicle sales increased by 3.4 per cent at 68,957 units from 66,667 units sold in the same month of last year.
Sales of utility vehicles, which includes brands like Gypsy, Grand Vitara and the recently launched Ertiga, increased by 1,653.4 per cent at 7,224 units from 412 units sold in the corresponding period of 2011.
The vans segment, which includes brands like Omni and Eeco, grew by 7.5 per cent at 12,620 units from 11,737 units sold in the like period of last year.
