New Delhi: Maruti seems to be making its mark in the sedan segment with its recently launched sedan, the Ciaz. Launched in October, Maruti claims to have sold 6,345 units of the Ciaz in its launch month itself. In contrast, Honda managed to sell 5,120 units of City last month.
After dominating India's small car market, the domestic carmaker has high hopes from the Ciaz. Priced from R6.99 lakh (petrol), the Ciaz undercuts its primary competitor Honda City by Rs 20,000 at the lower end and Rs 1.25 lakh at the top end (diesel); the petrol variants go up to R9.34 lakh (top-end automatic) while diesel variants cost anywhere between R8.04 lakh and R9.80 lakh.
The Ciaz comes in four variants – Vxi, Vxi+, Zxi and Zxi+ in petrol and diesel.
The new sedan from Maruti has a length of 4,545 mm and replaces the SX4. The car offers a better rear seat experience than its predecessor.
Maruti claims that the Ciaz (diesel) returns 26.21 km per litre, a little more than its rival Honda City's (diesel) 26 kmpl.
Available with both petrol and diesel engines, the Ciaz will be available with a choice of 2 transmission options (5-speed MT and an optional 4-speed AT for petrol). The petrol variants will be powered by 1.4-litre K10B, four-cylinder of 92 bhp and a peak torque of 130 Nm.
The diesel version will be powered by the 1.3-litre, Fiat sourced Multijet, four-cylinder engine, same as the one in the Ertiga, with maximum power of 89 BHP and peak torque of 200 Nm. For these variants, transmission options include only a 5-speed MT.
The car has been designed to appeal to wide range of users with its modern design and features such as projector headlamps, keyless entry and start function, multi-function steering wheel, climate control, rear AC vents, 16-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, ABS, EBD and dual airbags and much more.
After the Ciaz and the recently launched Swift facelift, Maruti is now readying the new Alto K10 and the Swift Dzire facelift for the Indian market.
