New Delhi: LG has announced a new LG Wine Smart Android clamshell smartphone in South Korea. LG Wine Smart is designed for a mid-tier market and one that caters specifically to elderly users.
LG Wine Smart features a 3.5-inch HVGA display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.4, 8MP rear camera and VGA front shooter. The phone also packs 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 1700 mAh battery and 4G LTE support.
The device has a user-interface, which can be fully operated without the need to use touchscreen. The phone also sports Kakao Talk button for quick access to the messaging app. Further, LG has included a "Safe Keeper" function that will automatically send out an emergency notification, along with necessary information like the phone's location, to pre-defined numbers in case the smartphone is unused for a set period of time, which could be an indication that something is not right.
Surprisingly, there is also a dedicated physical button for launching Kakao Talk.
First launched in 2007, LG's Wine series has been one of the key brands in the local handset market. The last model, Wine Phone 5, came out in April 2012 and ran on the second-generation (2G) network.
Industry sources said LG sold around 5 million units of the Wine phone lineup in South Korea through the past five models.
