Beijing: Personal computer maker Lenovo says its latest quarterly profit rose 36 percent, driven by strong growth in sales of smartphones and other mobile devices.
The world's biggest PC manufacturer said Thursday it earned $220 million, or $2.12 per share, in the three months ended Sept. 30. Revenue rose 13 percent to $9.8 billion.
Sales of smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices rose 106 percent over a year earlier to $1.5 billion, though that contributed only 15 percent of global revenue.
Sales of traditional desktop PCs fell 3 percent to $2.7 billion while laptop sales rose 8 percent to $5 billion.
