New Delhi: Chinese handset maker Xiaomi will offer 40,000 handsets of the entry-level Redmi 1S smartphone in a flash sale on September 2. It is almost four times the number of Mi 3 units put up for sale in the first batch.
The registrations for the Redmi 1S commenced Tuesday on Flipkart.com, the sole retailer of the Chinese company's products in India.
The decision to put Redmi 1S handsets on flash sale comes after the overhweming response from putting up the most coveted smartphones this season, the Xiaomi Mi 3. However, unlike Mi3, the Redmi 1S is a budget handset and should appeal to mid-range buyers who want good specs in a smartphone.
Despite the affordable price tag, the Redmi 1S comes with a 4.7-inch 720p IPS display, portected by Dragontrail, and is powered by a 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB RAM and an Adreno 305 GPU.
The device offers 16GB of in-built storage and a microSD card slot that further expands it up to 64GB. The device gets its juice from a 2400mAh battery and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Xiaomi's MIUI layer on top. There is also an 8MP rear shooter and a 1.6MP front camera.
Connectivity options include 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Direct and hotspot functionality, Micro-USB, Bluetooth 4.0, FM radio, GPS/ A-GPS, and USB OTG connectivity options. It weighs 158 grams, and has dimensions of 137x69x9.9mm.
It packs a 2,000mAh battery, runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) with MIUI v5 skin on top.
