New Delhi: According to a report from International Data Corporation (IDC) which monitors sale and purchase of various entities all over the globe, India was one of the fastest-growing countries worldwide in terms of smartphone adoption in 2013, which was largely powered by homegrown vendors such as Micromax, Karbonn and Lava. Overall, 257 million or 25.7 crore mobile phones were sold in 2013, which was an increase of 18 per cent as against 218 million mobiles sold in 2012. Samsung sold the maximum number of mobiles in Q4 of 2013 with a market share of 19 per cent, followed by Micromax (13 per cent), Nokia (12 per cent), Karbonn (10 per cent) and Lava (6 per cent).

 
Recently, Lava launched its new budget smartphone, the Iris 406Q, in India at Rs. 7,499. The device offers 3G dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) support with dual standby. The Iris 406Q features a 4-inch display with WVGA (480x800 pixels) resolution and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box that can be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU (Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset) and Adreno 302 @400MHz GPU coupled with 1GB of RAM. The Lava Iris 406Q sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera also onboard. It offers 4GB of inbuilt storage, and can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, GPRS/ EDGE and 3G. The Iris 406Q is backed by a 1700mAh battery and measures 124x64x10.3mm.
