New Delhi: The number of telecom subscribers in India went up by 2.81 million in April, data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said Thursday.
The total number of telecom subscribers stood at 935.81 million at the end of April, the data showed.
“The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 933 million at the end of March 2014 to 935.81 million at the end of April, thereby showing a monthly growth of 0.30 percent,” it said.
The share of urban subscribers declined from 59.51 percent to 59.44 percent, whereas share of rural subscribers increased from 40.49 percent to 40.56 percent in April.
Total wireless subscriber base increased from 904.51 million in March to 907.44 million at the end of April, registering a monthly growth of 0.32 percent.
Wireline subscriber base declined from 28.49 million at the end of March to 28.36 million at the end of April.
Net reduction in wireline subscriber base was 0.12 million at the decline rate of 0.44 percent.
Mobile number portability (MNP) requests increased from 117.01 million subscribers at the end of March to 119.24 million at the end of April.
In April alone, 2.23 million requests were made for MNP.
