New Delhi: Popular photo messaging app Snapchat has added two new features for its users: private messaging and video calls. To chat with a friend you simply need to swipe right on their name in your inbox and a chat window is pulled up. Messages are kept ephemeral, and are deleted when the chat screen is closed. However, either party can either tap to save or take a screenshot to keep information, such as addresses or to-list items, permanently. Prior to Snapchat, Instagram introduced its own private chat feature last December, while fellow video app Vine followed suit last month. Twitter too added added photo support and made it more prominent inside its mobile apps. At the same time, the messaging service has also designed video chats to be ephemeral. A blue icon will tell you when a friend notices you, and you press it to provide a one-way video stream to their device. Your friend can do the same right back at you. If both users are in a chat, the app will offer the opportunity to share live video and chat face to face, the company said in a blog post.
