New Delhi: Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is now official. The new smartphone is the successor of Galaxy Grand.
From the outside, you won't notice much difference. But this time the smartphone sports a slightly larger screen size at 5.25 inches, just a quarter of an inch higher than the original Galaxy Grand. The display resolution of the device has also been upgraded to 720x1280 pixels.
The dual-SIM device is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, which promises better multitasking capabilities including web browsing, opening apps, and playing games. It comes with 8GB internal storage, up to 64GB microSD card support and has a better 1.5GB RAM.
On the camera front, the phone has an 8MP camera with LED flash and sports a 1.9MP camera in front.
On the software front, the Galaxy Grand 2 is rather capable. It runs Android 4.3, which I hope the company will upgrade to Android 4.4 post-launch. The phone uses Samsung's custom TouchWiz interface and apps. The Galaxy Grand 2 will have Multi Window support.
Connectivity options include 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0. The Grand 2 gets its juice from a 2,600mAh battery which the company says can provide talk time of 17 hours. The phone will be available in white, black and pink colours in the market.
“This evolution of the Galaxy Grand series brings meaningful upgrades to its predecessor including an improved HD viewing experience, enhanced performance, and many other intuitive features,” Samsung says in its announcement.
The phone comes preinstalled with Story Album, which can organise pictures by timelines; S Translator, a translation service; S Travel, an app to give information regarding travel details and Samsung Hub, company's own content service that offers access to music, videos and games. The phone also has Group Play, a feature first seen on Galaxy S4, which lets users play music or games together, as well as share documents.
The Grand 2 measures 146.8x75.3x8.9mm and weighs about 163 grams.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 will be available in Black, Pink and White colour variants in select regions. However, the company has not revealed the price and availability of the smartphone.
The device competes against the likes of Sony Xperia C, LG G Pro Lite and Micromax Canvas Turbo, along with its sibling Galaxy Grand Duos.
