At the top of the screen you'll find the time, date and one upcoming calendar event. The rest of the screen is to just a few apps, contacts and web pages. The bottom of the screen has five static shortcuts.

One of the best features of the Z launcher is “Scribble.” With this nifty feature, everything on an Android phone is just a few swipes away. This means for something specific you don't need to dive into the app tray; you can open the app by drawing an item's first letter. For instance, you want to open Twitter and it's not currently on the screen, so you can scribble a “T” and then a “W” on the display.

As each letter is drawn, a list drills down apps, web pages and contacts until the desired item is tapped. Web searches can also be performed by scribbling letters on the screen.

The app is currently available only to a limited number of users in a rough alpha release. The current list of devices the app is optimized for includes the Nexus 5; Galaxy S5, S4, and S3; Moto X; HTC One; and Sony Xperia Z1.

However, there's no clear indication about how many downloads are going to be allowed.
