New Delhi: Google has acquired Jetpac, makers of an app that recommends destinations based on an analysis of publicly shared Instagram photos.

“We're joining Google,” the company said on its Web page. “We look forward to working on exciting projects with our colleagues at Google.”

San Francisco-based JetPac currently has three iPhone apps listed on Apple's App Store. An app called Jetpac City Guides uses pictures from various social networking sites to create city guides. The app can be used to find things like ‘Bars Women Love', ‘Hipster Hangouts', ‘Most Scenic Views', ‘Happiest Places in Town', and more.

Another app called Spotter lets users identify objects in realtime by pointing their phone at them. The app then uses ‘Deep Belief Object Recognition' to identify what the object is.

It's not clear exactly what Google will do with Jetpac's technology for finding things like popular bars and scenic vistas, but the startup has several technologies that mesh with Google's priorities.

Earlier this year, Google bought Nest Labs Inc, which makes smart thermostat and smoke alarms, for $3.2 billion, making the deal one of the largest in Google's history.
