New Delhi, May 2: Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, reported sales of 8,488 units in April, 2013 as against 7,075 units in the same period last year. That means a growth of 20 per cent on year-on-year basis. That growth was largely contributed by sales of 4852 Honda Amaze sedans in April 2013.

At the same time, Honda also sold 1,628 units of Brio, 1,917 of the City sedan, 58 units of CRV and 33 units of Accord during the month of April.

Within few weeks of its, Honda Cars India Ltd has received over 22,000 bookings for the Amaze sedan, outshining the response Maruti Suzuki India received for the Swift Dzire, launched a year ago. Honda Cars India dealerships are apparently struggling to keep up with the huge demand for the Amaze and it seems like the diesel sedan from the company could easily become the most successful of all cars ever launched from the Indian subsidiary of the famous Japanese car maker.

"With Amaze Honda has set on a new phase of growth in the country. Amaze has received tremendous response from the customers despite the slowdown in the industry. We are confident that Amaze will drive our growth in this fiscal," said Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice president (marketing & sales), HCIL.

HCIL has two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities at Greater Noida in UP and Tapukara in Rajasthan.

At the moment, the company can produce only 4,500-5,000 units of the Amaze every month, because of limited production facility. Due to this, prospective Amaze buyers will have to wait for long waiting period, especially for the high selling diesel variant.

The Amaze is Hondas first Indian car to get a diesel variant. The new Honda Amaze is powered by a 1.5 litre iDTEC engine that has 100PS of max power and a claimed fuel efficiency of 25.8 kmpl. This makes the Amaze D not just more powerful than other sedans but also one of the most fuel efficient cars in India.
