Kolkata, July 17: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said increased procurement prices of foodgrains triggered price rise of essential commodities in the country.
“Escalating procurement prices of foodgrains have resulted in the rise in the prices of the essential commodities,” Mukherjee told reporters here.
Referring to the price rise of rice and wheat, he said the government was aware of the situation and taking all steps to arrest the situation.
The government was also trying to contain the overall food inflation, Mukherjee said. PTI
