New Delhi: Apple launched a cheaper iPhone, the iPhone 5C, as well as the iPhone 5S, successor to the iPhone 5. This replacement in effect means that Apple will not produce iPhone 5 anymore, and will sell only the stock that is already available with retailers in the market.
The iPhone 5C will be available in five colors - green, blue, yellow, pink and white. The 5C has a 4-inch (10-centimeter) Retina display and is powered by Apple's A6 chip. It also has an 8 megapixel camera, live photo filters and a rear cover that lights up. The iPhone 5C will cost $99 for a 16 gigabyte model and $199 for a 32 gigabyte model with a two-year wireless contract.
The second phone, the iPhone 5S, comes in silver, gold and "space gray" and will run on a new chip, the A7, which is up to twice as fast as the A6. The latest smartphone from Apple has a Touch ID system, a security feature, the sensor which has been built right into the home button scans the user's sub-epidermal skin layers.
The entry-level 16GB iPhone 5C without a contract has been priced at $549 in the US. This means it will cost Rs 34,672 in India at current exchange rates (1 USD = 63.65 INR) and does not include the duties and other charges that come in while pricing a product in India.
Similarly, the 16 GB iPhone 5S will cost Rs 40,987 here in India at the current exchange rates.
So, in reality there isn't major difference with the earlier pricing and current pricing – a sure disappointment for millions who were hoping to see Apple in a more 'affordable' avatar.
While the iPhone 5C will be made available in the US on the 20th of September, it is expected to arrive in India only by the mid week of November.
