A Ford statement said the Ka concept "addresses global demand for sub-B compact vehicles, a segment that is projected to increase to approximately 6.2 million vehicles by 2017". Ford estimates the segment will grow by 35 per cent between now and 2020.
The current Ford Ka is co-developed with the Fiat 500, but the new Ford Ka is understood to be based on a heavily modified version of the last generation Ford Fiesta platform.
