First Impressions: Xolo X1000

New Delhi, March 17: Xolo, the brand behind the first Intel-powered smartphone, has launched its next Intel-based device Xolo X1000 for Rs 19,999 in the Indian market. The handset, which the company claims to be the faster Android phone, comes with amazing specs. The Xolo X1000 is an attractive handset without any doubt. Xolo has put a lot of effort in designing the handset. The Xolo X1000 has a unibody which means that the back panel extends to the front part, encapsuling the display inside it. There are two metal plates - one at the top and the other at the bottom. The bottom panel is the only part which is removable from the device and it harbours the SIM and micro SD card slots. The micro USB jack is also on the bottom. On the upper part, there is the power on/off button alongside a 3.5 mm jack. The volume rocker lies on the right hand side.The Xolo X1000 is not only quite thin but is lightweight as well. To be precise, it measures 133.9x67.6x9.1 mm and weighs 140 grams.The display sits on a raised platform and is completely glass covered which gives a good feeling. The rubberized back panel, which is also found in other Xolo handsets, has also a good feeling. The Xolo X1000's display measures 4.7 inch and comes with 1280x720 pixels resolution. This means that the TFT LCD display has 314 ppi pixel density, thanks to which the pictures were looking good on the screen. The display though seems to be a bit reflective one and we would like to test its brightness under bright sunlight.There is an 8 megapixel rear camera along with an LED. To check out its performance I clicked a few images in standard lighting conditions and their quality was good. There is a 1.3 megapixel camera in the front as well which too managed to create decent images.But the most important factor to be investigated is the speed of Xolo X1000. The claims does not look a hoax considering the fact that it has 2 GHz Intel Atom processor with Hyper Threading technology and 1 GB RAM. Earlier rumors suggested that the Xolo X1000 would feature the latest Intel Clover Trail+ processor, but instead is powered by one based on the one-generation old Medfield platform.We tried to open the Temple Run 2 which took some time to open but played beautifully nonetheless. It is very impossible to check the exact performance in a short time, so we will keep the verdict on hold in this regard for the time being.But Xolo X1000 comes with Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system but Xolo has promised to release the Android Jelly Bean operating system in future.The Xolo X1000 has also a decent 8 GB internal memory out of which just above 5 GB is available for users to store their contents. Anyway there is a micro SD card slot for expanding its storage to up to 32 GB.There is a 1900 mAh battery in Xolo X1000, which according to the company, provides 9.5 hours of talktime on both 3G and 2G networks while providing five hours of browsing time on 3G. Xolo claims that the phone can play 38 hours music through earphone or HD video playback of six hours. Xolo X1000 is claimed to have 14 days of standby time.There is WiFi, micro USB, and Bluetooth for connectivity in Xolo X1000 as well.
