New Delhi: Facebook has released a new app called “Stickered” For Messenger that lets you pick a photo, resize and paste a Facebook Sticker on top, and send it to friends. The app is built by Facebook's Creative Labs mobile design studio and it is the first companion app for Messenger.
The app offers 52 categories of emoticons including Pikachu (Pokemon character), Teletubbies, Burgerhead man and more.
Here's how it works: Snap a picture or select one of your photos. You can then choose from hundreds of Facebook Stickers, move them around, tilt and resize them, and then fix them to your photo. Certainly good news for people who want to put stickers on their existing pictures and makes them interesting.
The app comes out alongside a big speed boost and new animated sending/sent/delivered/read receipts on Messenger. Facebook Stickered is an ad-free app and does not require a Facebook login.
Notably, it is not a standalone app, and requires Messenger to be able to send images to Facebook friends. Moreover, there is also an option to add captions, and even apply stickers before the shot is taken with the app's built-in camera. Users can decorate images already present in their gallery as well, and there is no limit to how many stickers can be applied in one image.
Facebook is also dabbling with Snapchat-style frames you can overlay on your photos. On New Year's Eve, the selfie camera in Messenger will let you add a New Year's-themed frame over your photo, similar to what you might get out of a physical photo booth machine.
Facebook Messenger last month reached the 500 million monthly active users milestone.
In the highly competitive chat-space, tools like Stickered could easily give Messenger an edge over others, and might lead people to use Facebook more as a whole, including the News Feed where the social network shows ads.
