New Delhi: Social media services Facebook and Instagram suffered a brief outage (for around an hour) today, but they now appear to be back online.
The outage first occurred on 11:50AM IST on Tuesday and affected users in the United States, Australia, and Asia.
In a tweet that was later deleted, Instagram said it was aware of an outage.
"We're aware of an outage affecting Instagram and are working on a fix. Thank you for your patience," the tweet said.
Some users reported the outage on Twitter, using the hashtag #facebookdown, which quickly became a worldwide trending topic.
Some people even went as far as to call the incident "Armageddon," and said "this must be what 2002 was like."
Surprisingly, WhatsApp — the chat app that is also owned by Facebook — is online, which suggests that there isn't a total outage.
The outage also affected apps that rely on Facebook for user log-in, such as Tinder. Hipchat and AIM are among others suffered from this issue.
