Chennai: Efforts are on to reopen Nokia's handset manufacturing facility here, whose operations have been suspended, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister P Thangamani told the state Assembly today.
“Efforts are on to reopen the Nokia plant,” he said in a brief reply to a question raised by CPI member V Ponnupandi.
He indicated the company was not planning to recommence operations anywhere else in the country. “The company is not going anywhere,” he said.
The state government had recently blamed the erstwhile UPA government's tax policies for the closure of Nokia's facility at Sriperumbudur near here.
Nokia shut operations at the plant from November 1 last year which faced tax issues. More than 1,000 employees are facing an uncertain future.
