New Delhi: The Delhi Police has been alloted Rs 5372.88 crore for 2015-16 in the Union Budget, an increase of more than Rs 500 crore from last year, aimed at sprucing up traffic infrastructure, induction of latest technology and capacity building of the force.
In a bid to strengthen women security in the national capital, fund allocation for the Delhi Police from the Nirbhaya Fund has also been increased by Rs 40 lakh.
While a total of Rs three crore was allocated to Delhi Police from the Nirbhaya Fund under the revised budget estimates for 2014-15, an amount of Rs 3.40 crore has been set aside for fiscal 2015-16.
In the budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the city police was allocated Rs 390 crore in plan head while Rs 4979.48 crore was earmarked for non-plan expenditure, amounting to a total of Rs 5372.88 crore.
The revised budget estimates for Delhi Police for 2014-15 had been Rs 4865.30 crore.
The highlights include an allocation of Rs eight crore for the installation of traffic signals in the national capital this fiscal.
An amount of Rs seven crore has been allotted for ‘Developing Traffic and Communication Network in NCR Mega Cities and Model Traffic System' in the current budget. In 2014-15, Rs 11.37 crore was earmarked for the same purpose.
An amount of Rs three crore has been allocated for for upgrading training facilities, while Rs 50 lakh has been set aside for induction of latest technology.
The budget also includes allocation for the scheme on backend integration of distress signal from victims with mobile vans and control rooms which will be met from the Nirbhaya Fund.
An amount of Rs 95 crore has been set aside for construction of residential accommodation from Delhi Police personnel, which is substantially higher than the revised budget allocations of Rs 62.49 crore in 2014-15.
Similar trend has been witnessed in the fund allocated for construction of buildings for Delhi Police and a total of Rs 246.50 crore has been allocated for this purpose in the budget for 2015-16.
The revised budget allocations in the same head stood at Rs 152.03 crore in 2014-15.
Delhi Police is responsible for maintaining and enforcing law and order in the NCT of Delhi. The responsibility also includes traffic management in the city.
The provision is for routine expenses as well as for various schemes to be implemented by the force.
