New Delhi: Handset vendor Xolo has launched Xolo 8X-1000, a new Android smartphone, that runs the company's brand new Hive user interface, at Rs 13,999.
At the same time Xolo also unveiled its new user interface platform called Hive, which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and comes with major visual tweaks.
HIVE is company's take on Xiaomi's MIUI and features customized UI elements including themes, a new launcher, widgets, and customized system apps that offer additional features and the ability to connect with Xolo's software development team to offer feedback.
The company claims HIVE has been built studying consumer usage pattern across India. It says each feature of HIVE has been designed to provide ease of use and flexibility.
“Hive has been built to give users a differentiated experience in the UI from rivals. “Built on an Android core, HIVE is a “Made in India, Made for India” platform designed by our Software Design Centre at Bangalore,” said Vishal Sehgal, co-founder & director of Lava said at the special launch event.
A unique feature of HIVE is called Edge, a platform for designers to create and share themes, wallpapers, and ringtones for users. Hive comes with some pre-installed themes designed by artists commissioned by the company.
In terms of specs, Xolo 8X-1000 comes with a 5-inch 720p display with Asahi Dragontrail glass panel. The phone features a glass back with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Below the new HIVE UI, the phone has a Android 4.4 KitKat base.
The device is powered by a 1.4GHz MediaTek MT6592M octa-core processor and features 2GB RAM. It offers 16GB of internal storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.
The device offers an 8MP rear camera with Exmor R sensor and 2MP front camera, and comes with a 1,920mAh battery. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and Wi-Fi Direct.
