Mumbai: Infosys Ltd, India's second-largest IT services exporter, on Thursday appointed former SAP AG executive board member Vishal Sikka as its first non-founder Chief Executive Officer.
Sikka will take over from current Chief Executive SD Shibulal, one of the engineers who founded Infosys, on August 1, the company said in a statement to the stock exchanges.
Commenting on the appointment Sikka said, "honoured to lead Infosys which is an iconic co built by pioneers." "Looking forward to work with & learn from talented Infoscions," he added.
The company also announced that Executive Chairman NR Narayana Murthy and Executive Vice Chairman S Gopalakrishnan would step down on June 14. Rohan Murty to also leave company on June 14.
Commenting on the development Narayan Murthy said, "Sikka is an ideal choice to lead Infosys". "Sikka will bring valuable experience as leader of global company," he added.
Infosys also elevated 12 officials to Excutive VP with additional responsibility.
Infosys, which has long been a trend-setter in country's $100 billion-plus outsourcing industry, was under pressure to bring in a new chief executive soon to check an exodus of junior staff and reassure investors after a slew of departures at the top.
