New Delhi: Now you can use your smartphone to book an autorickshaw ride in Delhi through an app called PoochO. The Delhi Integrated Multi-Model Transit System (DIMTS) has sanctioned the development of the smartphone application which lets users find GPS-fitted autos passing nearby.
Launched by Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung, the PoochO app allows people to access the DIMTS database of registered drivers' mobile numbers and call them up to book a ride.
Pooch-O app can be downloaded on only android phones from Google Play store and thereafter, people have to ensure GPS of their phone is on and can find out auto nearest to them through Maps.
Jung described the app pretty useful and said it should come as a big relief to many in the national capital, especially women who commute via rickshaws at night, since it integrates a social aspect too.
The best thing about the PoochO app is that a driver who refuses to pick up a PoochO user for no appropriate reason will be faced with strict action.
Jung also said that they can also give their feedbacks on their travels in auto on "Pooch-O" aap.
"Pooch-O users can also calculate estimated fare for their trip and even track the auto to check if it is coming towards them or not after calling its drivers. This app will soon be available on iphone. Auto drivers will also be benifitted with this app as they will easily have passengers," S N Sahai, managing director (DIMTS) said.
The iPhone version of this tool is said to be coming soon to Apple iTunes, but no release date has been mentioned.
