New Delhi: After loads of leaks regarding hardware, color options, and the user interface of Nokia's unreleased device codenamed Normandy, there is some interesting information. But it is not the picture or video of the phone itself, rather a rumor about the device's name.
Famous tipster @evleaks has tweeted, "Project Normandy = Nokia X", which is quite self-explanatory.
It is expected that Nokia may officially announce the Android-based smartphone at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona next month along with few other smartphones.
If the rumour mill is to be believed, then the Finnish smartphone maker is certainly working on some form of Android phone.
Nokia's Normandy is rumored to be a low-cost device similar to its existing Asha line, but offers the capability to run a large number of smartphone apps. The handset should come with a modified version of Android 4.4.1 KitKat, a 5-megapixel camera and 854 x 540 resolution display.
Last year @evleaks leaked an image that depicted the front and rear part of Normandy, revealing its single navigation button, Lumia-like physical design and a rear camera without flash.
Soon after The Verge emerged with a juicy piece of news stating that the Nokia Normandy Android smartphone is designed to cater to the low-end segment of the market, which is currently served by the Asha series. To end the year, Evleaks released another image hinting that that the Normandy project is still going on despite Microsoft's acquisition over Nokia devices division.
And within the first week of 2014, most detailed emerged with the alleged leak of Normandy's user interface. The leaks showed how different the Normandy UI was to the usual Android interface. The leaks revealed that the UI has borrowed lots of elements from both the Asha and Windows Phone platforms. On the right side of the image, the UI tiles looked very similar to Windows Phone in terms of colours and icons while on the left is a notification centre that is almost identical to Asha's Fastlane feature. The dual SIM icons are also identical to those on Asha devices.
Looking at the overall specs of the device and the alleged press renders, it is can be interpreted that India will be one of the key markets for Nokia Normandy.
