New Delhi: After a long eight-month wait, Lava Internaitonal has launched its Iris Pro in India for Rs 15,999. The much-awaited launch of the device generated a lot of buzz in the tech press but it looks like the device has fallen short in terms of specifications and price. To put it right, it falls short when put up against the likes of Micromax Canvas Turbo and the upcoming Moto G.

The Iris Pro comes with a 4.7-inch display with 720p resolution using Sharp display with Corning Gorilla Glass shielding it. Since the touch panel is fully laminated, it helped Lava to keep the phone's thickness down. The Iris Pro is 7.5 mm thick and has thin bezels. With a weight of 114 g Lava claims it to be one of the lightest phones in this category.

The device is powered by an unspecified 1.2GHz quad-core CPU along with a PowerVR SGX544 GPU. This combination indicates the device using a MediaTek chipset.

The phone comes with an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and a BSI sensor on the back, along with a 3-megapixel camera at the front. But given its high price point, a 13 MP camera would have been preferable. The device comes with USB on-the-go support, which allows users to read data from pen drives and receive inputs from keyboard and mouse.

On the software front, it offers Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box and comes with Content Adaptive Backlight Control (CABC) for the display. Interesting software features include flip-to-mute, video PIP, voice and face recognition to unlock the model. It supports USB on-the-go, allowing it to read data from pen drives and receive inputs from keyboard and mouse.

Lava says the 2000 mAh pack along with the CABC feature should deliver long usage times.
