Greater Noida: Homegrown auto major Tata Motors today unveiled a concept compact sports utility vehicle Nexon along with another concept car ConnectNext, giving a glimpse of its future direction in terms of technologies.
Nexon is based on the X1 platform that underpins the new Tata Bolt and Zest. The Nexon competes against the likes of Ford EcoSport and upcoming Mahindra S101. The Nexon is designed by Tata's design teams in Turin, UK and India and points to the design direction that Tata vehicles will take in near future.
The model looks completely different from other models and gives futuristic feeling with the theme being carried forward in the interiors too.
Rising beltline and sloping roofline gives it more of a crossover feel. The flared wheelarches complete the crossover looks.
Under the hood, the Tata Nexon comes with a 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol unit. The engine delivers 83 BHP of power and 140 Nm of torque. It will also have a diesel engine.
Tata Motors Executive Director Commercial Vehicles Ravi Pisharody said the company's new products "translate into a great business proposition, combining low-cost ownership with driver comfort, high performance..."
The Tata Nexon will start rolling out from the assembly line in 2015. The model competes against the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, VW Taigun and Nissan Terrano.
