Greater Noida: Luxury automobile manufacturers Audi has unveiled its much-awaited entry level Audi sedan, the A3, in India, at the 2014 Auto Expo. Based on VW's MQB platform, the car was launched globally in April last year and has finally made it to India. At the same time Audi also showcased the and special versions of sports utility vehicle (SUVs) Q3, Q5 and Q7 along with its recent addition to its portfolio RS7 Sportback.
The Audi A3 Sedan should boost Audi's sales in the entry level executive sedan segment due to its stylish exteriors and plush interiors. Audi A3 sedan will directly compete against the likes of upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA and BMW 1 Series sedan.
"We believe this (Indian) market has tremendous potential for further growth of brand Audi. Reaffirming our commitment to the Indian market, we are bringing the Audi S3 sedan. We expect the Indian market to continue to grow and to contribute substantially to Audi's global sales," said Terence Johnsson, vice-president, overseas sales, Audi AG.
The new Audi A3 comes in both petrol and diesel guise. In all, Audi A3 will be available with three engine options, with a base 1.4 TFSI engine putting out a maximum of 140 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. This version can attain a speed of 100 km/h in just 8.4 seconds and deliver a mileage of 20 km per liter. Plus there is also a more powerful 1.8 TFSI engine that gives 180 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. This variant can do a 0-100 kph sprint in 7.3 seconds, while giving out a generous 18 kpl.
The sedan measures 4.46 meter and takes design cues from the A3 Sportback. The vehicle offers enough space to comfortably sit five people and has a boot space of 425-litres.
The new Audi A3 comes loaded with features such as Audi's drive select system, two zone climate control, new MMI and a multi-functional steering. It also sports Anti-Lock braking system (ABS) with EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution), ESP and airbags.
