Mumbai, May 2: Canadian handset maker BlackBerry said on Thursday that it has elevated Sunil Lalvani as the Managing Director of its India operations.

He replaces Sunil Dutt, who quit the company in March this year.

Lalvani will be responsible for overseeing and driving the overall business strategy and growth for BlackBerry in India, the company said in a statement.

An industry veteran with over 20 years of experience, he has been with BlackBerry since 2009, spearheading enterprise sales in India, it added.

“BlackBerry is driving the adoption of its next generation of mobile computing platform with BlackBerry 10, and India is a key market for growth of the powerful platform.

As I take up this new role, our focus will be to drive differentiated solutions for consumers and enterprise customers in India, providing a unique mobility experience that harnesses the full range of the BlackBerry offering,” Lalvani said.

Before joining BlackBerry in 2009, Lalvani held various senior level positions with IT companies including Cisco, Nokia, SITA-Equant and Global Telesystems in networking and telecom sales to enterprise customers in India.

In the interim, Rick Costanzo, executive vice president for global sales, was looking after the operations.

Dutt, who has served in the Indian mobile technology and telecom sector for 27 years, had joined the Ontario-based company in 2011.
