New Delhi: Low-cost carrier SpiceJet  has launched another discount scheme, this time, promising to offer tickets at a rate cheaper than trains. The three-day discount sale starting today will last till February 13. It offers domestic tickets at Rs 599 while international flights start as low as Rs 3499 per person.

Travel dates for availing the scheme are July 1-October 24, 2015.

“The sale is valid only for travel on direct and onward connections in our network. Select international sectors feature in this sale with starting fare in Indian national rupee currency. Limited seats available on first-come-first-served basis,” the airline said on its website.

This is the lowest fare offered by SpiceJet which has been dishing out discount schemes in a bid to raise some cash since last year.

The latest offer is also a bid to win back customer confidence as it is in the midst of a major revival scheme that has seen co-founder Ajay Singh coming back to the airline.

The "cheaper than train fares" scheme is available for international flights (except Colombo, Kabul and Dubai-Ahmedabad-Dubai sectors), at all-inclusive fares starting at Rs 3,499.

Under this offer, tickets on routes like Hyderabad to Vijayawada, Delhi to Dehradun, Guwahati to Kolkata, Ahmedabad to Mumbai, and Bangalore to Hyderabad all are priced at Rs. 599 only. International flights start as low as Rs 3,499 all-inclusive for Delhi to Kathmandu. Out of the four lakh seats under this offer, one lakh are at Rs 599 all-inclusive fare.

"We are thrilled to continue to make air travel more affordable and accessible for more Indians than ever before, with our new unbelievable offer. Fares for this offer are lower than AC train fares on many routes, and cheaper than non-AC sleeper class trains on several routes. And this time we are including most of our international flights in this offer too!" said SpiceJet CCO Kaneswaran Avili.

“At SpiceJet we believe that flying empty seats, which are the ultimate perishable commodity, is a crime, and the best way to fill seats that would otherwise go empty is to sell them well in advance at highly attractive rates, often lower than train fares, to those who are willing to plan and book early in exchange for fantastic deals”, said Sanjiv Kapoor, Chief Operating Officer, SpiceJet Ltd.

“These are seats that would otherwise go empty and be lost forever, and are priced based on the marginal cost of carrying an extra passenger, not on the average cost. Revenues from such offers contribute incremental revenue for the airline that flows directly to the bottom line”, he added.

“Since there is limited inventory under the offer, it will be available on First-Come-First-Served basis and is not applicable on group bookings,” the airline said.
