Lucknow, May 26: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said a debate should be held on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Addressing a conclave organised by the Hindustan Times here, he said if the FDI was against the interest of farmers, his government would never support it.  Akhilesh reiterated development through PPP model to march ahead in the field of IT, power, health, transport, industry and other sectors.

He said expecting reforms without private-public partnership was probably not possible and added there had been good results of the model.

The CM said he was hopeful of being successful in making UP prosperous.

He said this was not possible without the support of all sections of society.

Akhilesh said his government would not take any decision against the interest of any section of society.  He said the government's decision to give tablets and computers to 26 lakh children in UP was being considered as revolution in the IT sector in the state.  The Chief Minister said there was need for reforms in the agriculture sector.

He said measures were being taken for expansion of infrastructure facilities in the state and its results would be evident in days to come.

He said whether it was setting up of AIIMS or an Aviation University, the state government would assist the Centre at all levels.
