Bangalore: Budget airline Air Deccan Friday expressed interest in starting to-and-fro fights from Delhi and Chandigarh to three tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh, a statement said.

Chairman and managing director of Air Deccan G.R. Gopinath met Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here at the investors' meet and offered to start multiple fights to Shimla, Kullu and Dharamsala from Delhi and Chandigarh, a government statement said.

It said the air carrier has sought to start three flights a day to Shimla from Delhi and two flights between Chandigarh and Kullu. The state government has agreed in principle to the proposal subject to the necessary clearances.

The chief minister asked the company to submit its proposal as the government was interested in enhancing the air connectivity, said the statement.

It said TVS Motor Company, whose representatives met the chief minister, has decided to invest Rs.300 crore to open its new engine manufacturing plant and to expand its existing facility.

Likewise, Kurlon Ltd., Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Ltd., Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, Volvo India and Dell showed interest in investing in the state.

This was the first phase of investors' meet organised by the state in association with the Confederation of India Industries.

Earlier, a two-day meet was held in Mumbai. One more meet in this phase will be organised in Ahmedabad Saturday.

In the second phase, the investors' meet will be held next month in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and New Delhi.

Official data shows that Himachal Pradesh got maximum investment from 2003 to 2010 when there was a special industrial package of the central government.

Most investments were in pharmaceutical, food processing, textile, packaging and light engineering sectors.
