Ahmedabad: Global hotel operator Accor today said it plans to open 47 hotels in India by 2015 as part of diversifying its business ventures across the country. "We plan to open 47 hotels by 2015 in India," Accor India Senior Vice-President (Operations) Jean-Michel Casse told mediapersons here.

The announcement was made at the opening of Novotel, Accor's mid-scale hotel brand, in Ahmedabad. Novotel, Ahmedabad is the leading hotel operator's 23rd property in India. It is also Accor's second hotel in the city after Formule1, another brand owned by the Group, which opened this year.

Another hotel under the Novotel brand would start operating in Pune in two weeks, said Casse, adding that the French Group is also coming up with an upscale hotel in Gandhinagar.

"We are delighted with the rapid growth of our Novotel network in India. The opening of Novotel Ahmedabad reinforces our focus on India as a key market for development. The potential of the city and the right partnership with Kanakia Group helped in tapping the market at the right time."

Casse said they are targeting occupancy levels of at least 60 per cent within a year at Novotel, Ahmedabad and 75 per cent in three years.

Regarding expansion in Gujarat, he said the Group is waiting for the right kind of opportunity for opening hotels in Rajkot, Surat and Vadodara.

Present in 92 countries, with more than 3,500 hotels and 4,50,000 rooms, Accor has over a dozen brands, ranging from luxury to budget, in its portfolio.
