New Delhi, July 16: Hong Kong-based electronics manufacturer iBerry launched its first ever Android smartphone Auxus Nuclea N1. The device packs in some amazing features including a 12.7-cm (5-inch) 1080p full HD touchscreen display, run Android 4.2 and sport 1.6GHz quad-core MT6589T processor, 13 MP rear and 8 MP front cameras.On the other hand, homegrown handset maker Micromax's latest much hyped mid-end flagship phone, the Canvas 4, is an incremental upgrade to the Canvas HD. The smartphone comes with an above average-build but packs additional features running on the MediaTek quad-core CPU launch. It has a 5-inch 720p IPS display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, a 13MP camera and vanilla Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.Let us see how these two smartphone stack up against each other: Design and Build Quality The iBerry Auxus Nuclea N1 has a pretty sleek and decent design. It has dimensions of 144.5 x 73 x 8.9 mm, 142 x 73.5 x 9.6 mm. Its sleek form makes it delicate but it is still durable. Its clean lines and slight curves make it look edgy. The smartphone has three touch buttons on the front screen.On the other hand, Micromax Canvas 4 is clean and premium looking, despite its largeness. Its aluminium lines give it a sophisticated feel and curved edges make it easy to use. The phone measures 44.5mm x 73mm x 8.9mm dimensions and it weighs 158g. The bulk of the Canvas 4 is still made of plastic which makes it lighter and easier to hold. At 8.9 mm the Canvas 4 is a little slimmer than the 9.6 mm Auxus Nuclea N1, but it is 37.3 grams heavier.Winner: Nuclea N1Display The Canvas 4 sports a gorgeous 5-inch IPS touch screen display with resolution of 1280 x 720pixels, with 294ppi pixel density. The smartphone offers good viewing angles, good brightness levels, good contrast and nice colors. The display is responsive for playing games and watching movies. You can also use the phone while wearing gloves too! In addition the display is so sensitive that you can enable a cool unlocking mode, where in you can blow air to the screen to unlock your smartphone.The Auxus Nuclea N1 features a full HD screen with 1080p (1920×1080) resolution. Auxus Nuclea N1 is equipped with active matrix display meaning that each pixel of the display is individually controlled to provide a sharp image at wide viewing angle, so that users can have a different and unique viewing experience. Micromax Canvas 4 is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex A7 processor and is supported by 1 GB of RAM. Surprisingly, there are no improvements as far as the chipset is concerned when compared to its predecessor. The Canvas 4 has 16 GB of inbuilt memory and supports extension up to 32 GB via microSD card slot.Winner: Nuclea N1CameraThe fourth-generation Canvas smartphone has a 13 megapixel rear shooter and an impressive 5 megapixel front shooter. The primary camera has the ability to record 1080p videos and supports face-detection for up to six faces. It is also packed with features like geo-tagging, touch focus, smile and face detection. The smartphone also comes with features like four way panorama, which allows you to shoot panoramic images horizontally from right to left or left to right and vertically from top to bottom or bottom to top. There's also an HDR mode, which combines three shots in one and lets you retain detail in both highlight and shadow areas , which includes an overexposed, an underexposed and a medium exposed option. Canvas 4's burst mode allows you to click up to 99 shots in about 15 seconds and you edit and beautify the picture without having to use image filter and editor.While both phones have a 13 megapixel rear cameras, the Auxus Nuclea N1 has a higher resolution front camera than the Canvas 4. While the Canvas 4 has a 5 megapixel front camera, the Auxus Nuclea N1 has an 8 megapixel front camera. Although, the Auxus Nuclea N1 has a higher resolution front camera, Canvas 4 emerges as the winner due to host of features provided in the camera software.Winner: Micromax Canvas 4User InterfaceMicromax Canvas 4 is powered by Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). Though Micromax provides custom icons, under the hood the device runs mostly stock Android user interface. Micromax has laced the Canvas 4 with its own apps, like the M Security, and various other Jelly Bean specific apps. M Security is helpful in preventing the virus attacks, backs up your contacts and has anti-theft options embedded to secure the phone in case of an intruder alert. On Antutu, a popular Android benchmark, the Canvas 4 scored a respectable 13,559 points. Devices like Galaxy S4 and HTC One score over 20,000 points in this benchmark. Thus, from the price point of view, Canvas 4's score looks decent.The Nuclea N1 is also running the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. Here the winner is Canvas 4 due to host of features that it offers along with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Winner: Nuclea N1VerdictAs most of our readers would agree that Micromax Canvas 4 does not live up to the pre-launch hype it generated. Overall, the Canvas 4 is a decent smartphone on paper, but it do not offer everything that people wanted (for instance, full HD display). No doubt Micromax has worked hard in making some strong improvements in the software department of the smartphone. A 13-megapixel shooter at such price point, innovative features like blow-to-unlock featuyres, vertical panorama, face-detection, anti-shake, silence a call by keeping your phone face down, are all welcome features – something users would expect from a giant like Micromax. On the other hand, iBerry Auxus Nuclea N1 scored high on different fronts including design and build quality, full HD display, battery, and processing speed. At Rs 15,990, the Nuclear N1 seems to be better equipped than the Micromax Canvas 4 and offers better value for money.
