New Delhi: Micromax subsidiary Yu Televentures will offer 10,000 units on the first sale of its Yureka smartphone via Amazon India on January 13.
The Yu Yureka smartphone will be available to buy starting 2 pm on Tuesday for registered users from Micromax's official online partner for the handset. It is the same time when Xiaomi will begin its Redmi Note 4G flash sale on Flipkart.
Amazon will also offer Cash on Delivery for Yureka customers. According to Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma, given the enthusiastic response the company has received from users, it will increase the number of units put out for sale gradually.
Micromax Yu Yureka is a very non-Micromax looking smartphone. It comes with a 5.5-inch 720p (720x1280 pixels) IPS display with a pixel density of 267ppi and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Yureka offers dual-SIM support, with slots for Micro-SIM cards (4GƱG) ensuring that the phone supports existing 4G networks on TD-LTE Band 40 as well as new 4G LTE networks that will come up on FDD-LTE Band 3 on which newer networks are expected to be rolled out.
The device is powered by a 64-bit 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC (MSM8939), coupled with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. This is the same chip we have seen in Vivo X5Max phone.
The handset comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, of which slightly over 12GB is available to users as well as a microSD card slot.
Yu Yureka comes with a 13-megapixel Sony Exmor CMOS sensor rear autofocus camera with an f/2.2 aperture and flash. A front-facing 5-megapixel fixed-focus camera is also onboard. The phone can also shoot slow-motion videos as 60 frames per second and a future software update will make it capable of shooting slow motion video at 120 frames per second.
The 720p IPS display offers good viewing angles, color reproduction, and legibility under sunlight as well.
One of the major highlights of the Yu Yureka is that it runs the Cynaogen 11 OS as the result of an exclusive tie-up with Cyanogen Inc. Cyanogenmod offers an almost stock Android interface but adds a number of power tools that offer deep customizations. Yu is the only smartphone brand that can officially sell smartphones running on Cyanogenmod OS in India.
The OS allows user to change the theme of the phone, change system-wide fonts, icons, boot animations, etc. Users can also customize the lockscreen not only in terms of what security method one prefers (pin, pattern and so on) but also how it behaves. Other customization options include creating hidden folders, adding password locks, and selecting which apps have access to personal information. Users also have the option to root the phone without voiding the warranty.
The handset comes with a 2,500mAh battery which can easily last for the whole day with almost six hours of screen time on.
