New Delhi: Chinese handset manufacturer Xiaomi has announced that the upcoming Redmi smartphone will be named as the Redmi Pro and will be revealed at an event in Beijing on July 27.
Earlier rumours suggested that Xiaomi’s next smartphone could be named as the Redmi Note 4, or a Mi 5s. However, Xiaomi confirmed the official 'Redmi Pro' name through Weibo, a Chinese tech company.
Leaks released earlier have claimed that the new Xiaomi Redmi Pro will feature a deca-core MediaTek MT6797M processor under the hood with 3GB of RAM.
It is also expected that the handset will run MIUI on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. A 4GB RAM variant was also spotted on Geekbench benchmark, a cross-platform processor testing website.
The Xiaomi Redmi Pro was seen in a teaser with Redmi's celeb face Liu Haoran holding a white Mi branded smartphone. If the leaked image was to be believed, the Redmi Pro will not have any fingerprint scanner on the back. The current generation Redmi Note 3 sports the feature.
Some of the leaked Redmi Pro images also claimed that the handset will come with a metal unibody with antenna bands on top and bottom of the smartphone. The volume rockers and the power button will both be on the right side of the phablet.
The Redmi Pro is also rumoured to feature a Snapdragon 652 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage.
