Facebook is currently world’s most sought after social networking site. But a few startling statistics have emerged that the social media giant’s popularity have take a hit, according to ‘The information’ research website.

The study also reveals there has been a consistent drop in user’s sharing their personal experiences, thoughts and ideas involving their personal life on this social media platform.

The website said, ‘Instead of sharing personal experiences, now users are more inclined towards brand updates, news and videos.’

As the reports suggest, between 2014 and 2015, the sharing of private posts have been 21 % fewer and every year there is a decline of 15% in sharing of private post.

There are 1.59 billion active users of Facebook till date, which makes it bigger than Chinese demography. While desktop traffic to its websites has witnessed a downfall. This is at least in part due to the fact that many people now only access their social networking sites via their mobile phones.

With social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram becoming an instant hit among users, Facebook will largely lose its appeal by 2017, say researchers at Princeton University.

To overcome this problem facebook has also formed a new team. A news feed option is shown as the people's priority. More number of private posts is made to share on the site.

However, Facebook said, that it is not a big problem. There are still large number of users sharing their posts on this social networking site.
