New Delhi: Ever since its launch in 2012, Tinder has emerged as one of the most popular dating apps. Since its launch, anyone with an age of 13 or older and with a Facebook account was able to use the dating app.
However, now the dating age limit is about to change from next week, and anyone under 18 will be banned from using this app.
It was a bit surprising to see that app could be used by a 13-year-old but the teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 were only allowed to use the app. This means that their possible Tinder "matches" have been restricted to other app users within their age group.
Tinder in its official statement wrote, "On a platform that has facilitated over 11 billion connections, we have the responsibility of constantly assessing our different user experiences."
It further added, “Consistent with this responsibility, we have decided to discontinue service for under 18 users."
A Tinder spokeswoman told to media that users of the age limit of 17 and younger only amount to about 3 percent, which is around 1.5 million users out of 50 million.
This is not the first time that any popular app has introduced age restriction. Other dating websites, such as OkCupid and Hinge, have also had age restrictions, and many other social media platforms restrict their users by age.
Also social media sites Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram require users to be at least 13. Some are more particular about the age limit, which has WhatsApp with an age requirement of 16, and Vine with 18.
