With the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), truckers are having a smooth sailing across the check-posts, which have been abolished in 22 states and will soon stop operating in other states. As the GST converted the entire country into a single market, border check posts have been dismantled by the states, saving precious time for transporters as the trucks spent hours in queues at such outposts.
State level check posts used to collect taxes on movement of goods which will not be required under the GST regime that took effect from July 1. The rates are common under the GST and for the movement of goods in or outside a state, there is no need to check whether goods have moved physically out of the state or not. While some check-posts have been completely removed, some physically stay but are unmanned. However, some of the employees remained st some posts where they were seen guiding truckers.
Here is the list of 22 states in India have abolished their check posts after GST rollout:
